World Trade Center Conference Stresses Holistic Approach to Information Security

June 26, 2008

Al Sharq was the scene last week of a conference on information security put on by the World Trade Center. The theme of the conference was "People, Processes, Technology" - a phrase that is becoming almost a mantra in information security because it stresses that information security is not just a technology problem. Rather, it must also be addressed through effective information security policy and adequate training of the staff, who, in the end, are responsible for protecting an organization's information assets.

The conference opened with a session on legal frameworks for information security. Brigadier Saleh Khamis Al Kubaisi, from the Ministry of the Interior, spoke about the current provisions on cybercrime in the penal code, while Meegan Webb, of ictQATAR's regulatory authority, spoke about plans for cybercrime legislation in Qatar. Craig Blakeley, from the Alliance Law Group, spoke about international frameworks for cybercrime legislation. A podcast with Craig is featured on the Q-CERT web site this week.

Other sessions at the conference included topics such as security in service-oriented architectures, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), digital asset management, cyberforensics, and identity management.
