Q-CERT to Host ITU Meeting

By Michael Lewis and David Mundie
January 23, 2008

Q-CERT will host a regional meeting of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the Doha Marriott Hotel February 18-21.

The meetings are part of an ongoing program of work that emerged from the 2006 ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), also conducted in Doha. The WTDC 2006 meetings established the "Doha Action Plan" and, as one of its components, a formal study group on the question of "Securing Information and Communication Networks: Best Practices for Developing a Culture of Cybersecurity."

The study group has generated a draft of its report and is conducting meetings in each of five regions around the world to present its findings and gather regional input and experiences. Qatar was selected as the host for the Arab regional meetings as it is recognized as a regional leader on the topic of national information security.

The meetings in Doha will include sessions and case studies on issues such as national cybersecurity strategies, incident response programs, legal foundations for cybercrime and enforcement, computer incident analysis and cyber forensics, government and industry cooperation, and building national and regional frameworks for cooperation.
