Q-CERT is forming a local chapter of the Open Web Application Security Project, or OWASP. OWASP is an international organization dedicated to improving information security at the application layer by considering all the dimensions of the problem: people, process, and technology. The organization works to create freely available articles, methodologies, documentation, tools, and technologies in support of application security.
"Application-level security is the next major challenge for the information security field," said Omar Sherin, a member of Q-CERT's Critical Infrastructure Protection team, "so I think it's important to have a local community focusing on the issues."
The local chapter should have a website up and running shortly. Meetings of the chapter will be held in Q-CERT facilities at least every other month.
